Smackie’s & Beyond!

First of all: Happy New Year, Merry Christmas, and Happy Thanksgiving! Every time I've sat down to try and write one of these, I've been sidetracked with real life and I just kept putting it off. So, 3rd time's the charm, I guess? Anyways - onto the update!

With Smackie's coming to a close this Friday (1/9), and officially scheduled to release, it's time to look towards the future. As much as I LOVE Smackie's and our Retro friend and his fryboy counterpart, I'm excited to be working on another passion project. It's bittersweet, honestly - I never imagined Smackie's to connect with so many people. It started as this goofy idea about a guy training himself on how to run a fast food restaurant, and evolved into something much more meaningful. So, it's sad to walk away from it for now, and to know that, at least for the podcast, this story is complete.

And so, we close this chapter of Ghost Wolf, and move onto the next one, which is weird becasue we're kinda moving into a prologue of sorts here.

The Hanson Tapes came BEFORE Smackie's.

I've had this first season written and (mostly) recorded for close to a year now. In fact, it was supposed to release Sept 5th 2025, and got replaced by Smackie's. And, honestly, I couldn't think of a better jumping off point than Smackie's to get a show under my belt. This show follows Agent Tate, as he receives cryptic audio confessions from (potential) serial killer Jack Hanson. As the series unfolds, it's up to you to decide whether or not Jack is confessing, or spiraling into a mental crisis. Up to this point, I've only had Jack's portion of Episodes 1 - 10 recorded, awaiting an actor for Agent Tate. And I'm excited to announce, as of last night, we officially have Episodes 1 - 5 COMPLETELY recorded.

So, what does this mean?

Well, to be completely transparent, I'm eyeing early September as my release window for all of my projects moving forward. This gives me enough time between seasons/series to write/record/edit/schedule all of my episodes. I'm a work ahead type of guy, so I like to have as many episodes batched as possible so that I can stay on a consistent release schedule for you guys. There's nothing more frustrating than having to wait on an episode because the creator is behind.

Fret not, though, because I've got a few more projects in the works that I'm spitballing to have a more consistent, year-round sort of release schedule. But, again, I'm a work ahead type of guy, so I don't want to start releasing these until I have a few batched up so that I can stay on a consistent schedule.

The first is Smiles from Bright Town. You can actually hear the first episode in my previous Behind the Static update. It's a PBS style broadcast with kids shows that teach you about life, friendship, death, sharing, and everything in-between.
The second is Phil vs Normal Life; a sitcom style mini-fiction that follows a ghost (Phil) and his reanimated corpse (Phil) as they try to navigate living a normal life post-mortem. I've actually got the first episode of this recorded, as well, following Phil as he attempts to pay his rent to his landlord.

However, my main focus at this juncture is to put together The Hanson Tapes Season 1 so that it's ready for release in early September.

A quick look ahead, expect this to drop Friday September 4th, as of this writing. The larger, more serialized projects take priority, while the ongoing series are on the backburner for the time being. Hopefully, once I finalize The Hanson Tapes and schedule it to post in the coming months, I'll have plenty of time to work on SFBT & PvNL to batch those and get those on a consistent release schedule for you - bi-weekly, forever. Or, until I get bored with it lol.

Alright, cool. Knocked this off my to-do list for the day. I hope it provides some insight into the process and a little roadmap for you, moving forward. I'm debating, depending on how large this community grows, putting out a poll once The Hanson Tapes is scheduled and having you guys decide on which project you'd like for me to focus on next! I've got a lot of concepts in the chamber, in various states of completion that I'm excited to share with you. But, I'd love for you to help guide this process and choose which shows YOU want to listen to next.

I've officially got work to do, and I'm procrastinating by rambling here.

Happy Halloween!!

I don’t know about you, but Halloween is my favorite holiday. I know, I know - a lot of people think it’s overrated, and it’s definitely fallen off in recent years with Trunk or Treating (in my opinion); but there’s something magical about this time of year that I love. Pumpkins, ghosts, vampires, werewolves - all of which you’ll find featured in some way or another in most of my works. I love the supernatural (and coincidentally Supernatural. It’s my comfort show), and so a lot of my work is

So, to those of you that celebrate, and those that don’t: Happy Halloween!

Now, not to bury the lead here, because we DO have a new episode of Smackie’s premiering tonight at 7PM - but, I wanted to share sneak peak at something else I’ve been cooking up in my cauldron. If you’ve done some exploring on my site, you’ve undoubtedly come across the page for Smiles from Bright Town. It’s a fun little project inspired by the likes of Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared, Mr. Crocket, Amanda the Adventurer, and My Friendly Neighborhood. Pretty much anything that turns the children’s programming trope on its head.

I have no clue how to make this any smaller. I’m sorry lol.

Before we get started, I cannot stress this enough: this project is NOT for children.

It’s fun and whimsical on the surface, but it is very much a horror podcast and I’d rather not be responsible for keeping your kids up at night because you turned on Smiles from Bright Town to entertain and educate them, and Sunny & the gang scared them half to death. I may be a little too ambitious with this project, considering I’m a solo creator: writing, producing, voicing, editing, distributing, sacrificing, embalming - you get the picture. BUT, my plan is for this to be an ongoing production along the lines of Welcome to Night Vale (which, if you haven’t listened, you should. It’s my favorite podcast). I’m still worldbuilding, and there’s a quite a bit to go before I actually release this on streaming platforms. But, I sat down and hammered out Episode 1 a couple weeks ago, and finally got around to piecing it together, and I’m super happy with how it turned out. So, if you’re here, then that means you get to give Episode 1 a listen before anyone else! Just think of it as a fun little Halloween treat from me to you!

As of right now, it’s untitled. Just Episode 1. I’ve got about 20 Episodes in some form on conceptualization sketched out, and in a perfect world, I’d put all of these together ahead of the release date and have them batched so that I’m ahead of the game. However, we’ll see how things progress, and if I can hold out that long before I’m too excited to start putting this out there for everyone to enjoy.

A little update before you go

Just a quick update on Smackie’s Smile Shack. I’m currently in the process of editing Shift 8 - Customer Complaint. I’m about 3/4 of the way through with it, and then it’s into Premiere to bake in some visuals for YouTube and scheduling it. I’ve got Episodes 9 through 11 completely recorded, and they’re next on the chopping block. I’ve made some revisions to Episode 12 (the final episode), and still need to step into the booth to lay down lines for it. I originally planned to knock it out when I recorded 9 through 11, but uh. I may have blown my voice out doing those episodes, so that never happened lol. Then sickness ran through the house, and we were passing cooties back and forth, and NOW, I’m finally at a point that my voice feels fine enough to jump back into recording.

Did I mention I might be procrastinating just a bit because I’m sad to be recording the final episode of Smackie’s?

I’m also struggling on deciding on what to work on after Smackie’s is wrapped. September is what I’m aiming for as far as yearly release dates for the projects I’m working on, so I’ve got some time to figure it out, and put it all together. If I can work in some time with the voice actor for The Hanson Tapes, that’s for sure the next release to look forward to. Otherwise, I’ve got some writing and recording to do to get the next project off the ground. Hmmm, maybe a poll at a later date? We’ll see.

Just a peak behind the curtains on my editing process. OH, and I just noticed - the main character technically doesn’t have a name. I just refer to him as “Present Me” when writing and editing. But his name is never spoken within Smackie’s. Just a fun little easter egg, I guess.

Beneath the Static Issue #1

Yo!

Welcome to the weird little world of Ghost Wolf Creative Studios. This has been an idea long in the making, and I finally pulled the trigger on it. The site is in flux right now, as I’m working to design everything to my liking - however, the content is here to stay. I’m not exactly sure what I’m planning to do with this Beneath the Static section, and it’s going to be pretty inconsistent as I still have a work life and family life beyond the scope of GWCS. But, expect Broadcast Updates on the shows as I progress through the pipeline on them, Signal Logs filled with lore drops and other fun things about the shows, and these Beneath the Static Issues where i ramble incoherently for a bit with insights and reflections on the brand, the shows, and myself!

From Cryptids to Grease Traps

Fun fact, Smackie’s came about as a solution to another problem I was running into - a lack of voices for my projects.

The Veiled Codex is the first project I began working on underneath the Ghost Wolf Creative brand. I’ve worked previously on audio dramas and even horror narrations (spookyou represent!), however I wanted to do things a bit different here. Aside from an old Film Noir podcast I created back in 2017, I was relying on other people to write my scripts for me: Reddit authors (permission was ascertained), and my buddy Quaid, who lends his voice to The Veiled Codex. I began writing The Veiled Codex about 2 years ago, and I’m currently 3 episodes in, with Episode 1 fully produced (pending a few adjustments in post). However, the depth of the lore for this podcast is pretty extensive, creating my own version of SCP, and the rules and guidelines that go into all of that.

The biggest hurdle with this project, however, doesn’t lie within the writing - it lies within scheduling time to get together with Quaid and record his lines.

So, I began working on and devising another podcast: The Hanson Tapes. This one is more centralized on a singular character, Jack Hanson, and the audio logs he leaves for a Detective, Tate. About 90% of this podcast is Jack Hanson, with Detective Tate providing the framework for the show. I actually have Season 1 completely written, and all of Jack’s lines recorded, edited, and placed on a timeline ready to go. But, again, I’m running into scheduling issues with the voice actor for Tate. Which is a shame, because The Hanson Tapes was originally supposed to release on September 5th, 2025, and I’m so excited to bring this project to life for you. There’s a lot that I don’t want to spoil, but believe me when I say that this is going to be more than a podcast - if you’re willing to put in the work.

Anyways, I called an audible.

Around July it became pretty apparent that The Hanson Tapes wasn’t going to make that Sept. 5th release date. I debated pushing it back, giving up. I was pretty bummed about it, honestly. Then, one night I’m laying in bed trying to get my 2 year old to sleep, scrolling on my phone and I come across a video on X. It’s a pretty simple concept. You’ve seen all the iterations of it, I’m sure:

Empty fast food restaurant
Ominous atmosphere
Creepy voiceover with various rules that you must follow during your shift

But something about this particular video struck a cord in me. Lightning struck and immediately I began thinking about all the ways I could do this in podcast form. But then the hesitation: how would I make this work, when I’ve got 2 projects on the shelf because I can’t figure out schedules? So, I started looking at it from a different angle - how could I write this in such a way that I only need one voice? My voice. Now is probably the appropriate time to admit that I have a bit of a fascination with old training videos and commercials from the 80s & 90s. Suddenly, it was crystal clear: the main character is being trained through a series of 90s training videos by a future version of himself. Now, the scope of the show has expanded quite a bit from that simple premise, but that was the birth of Smackie’s Smile Shack. From Cryptids to grease traps, and here we are. You’re reading this, and I somehow managed to cobble together a show good enough to get you here.

And the best part? This is just the beginning.

I’ve got so many ideas rattling around inside my head with these shows, and it may take some time, but I’m determined to bring every single one of them to life. I appreciate you joining me in this journey. Let’s create something weird together. Beneath the static.
